It’s Not Your Birthday!
Invite your school friends, neighbors or cousins over for a “It’s Not Your Birthday” party. The kids will have so much fun that it won’t matter to them how hot it is outside. You can host this party at your neighborhood school or in your own yard.
Here’s what you do: Let the kids play with water balloons and shaving cream! (Buy the $.99 shaving cream and don’t get the smelly kind–it burns your eyes.) Fill up those little blue plastic pools with water and let the kids rinse off in them or play with the balloons in them. Some kids will want to name the balloons and play with them. Other kids will throw them like they are pitching in the major leagues. Don’t organize any games to play, just let the kids play.
Have some hotdogs already cooked and in the buns. If you wrap each one in foil and store them in one of those hot/cold grocery bags you can make them ahead of time. Serve watermelon and popsicles. Provide refreshing drinks for your adult guests, but remember that alcohol at school is a crime –even in the summer. Don’t give out any awards. Don’t provide party favors. Don’t eat cake. It’s an unbirthday party!
